Born in Mufulira, Zambia, Mutanda Kwesele grew up in Seattle, Washington where he began his soccer journey. After starting his collegiate playing experience at Santa Clara University, Mutanda graduated from Seattle University in 2008 with a B.A. in psychology while competing with the school's NCAA Division I soccer team. He would go on to play professionally with the Portland Timbers in 2009 and with FC Edmonton of the NASL in 2011. Kwesele received a Master’s degree, with a concentration in Teaching, from Seattle University's School of Education in 2016 and also currently holds a USSF National "B" Coaching License. Mutanda has coached youth soccer in Washington State for several years, is the head coach of Rainier Beach High School's boys’ soccer program, and has experienced the game in more than 10 different countries spanning 4 continents. Mutanda is also the founder and creator of The Rising Point, a community outreach program designed to make the game of soccer more accessible to inner city children and engage and empower them in pursuit of excellence.
